Facial masks have been used for thousands of years and offer many benefits to your skin.  They can effectively detoxify the skin, tone facial muscles and exfoliate dead cells.  Adding this luxury to your facial routine does not have to be expensive or difficult.  There are many homemade facial mask recipes that can be made using natural ingredients you already have in your home.

Once you determine which mask is best suited for your skin type, you can easily whip it up and add it to your regular skin care routine.  A nice homemade facial mask can be applied 1-3 times per week for best results.  Facial masks should typically be left on for about 10-20 minutes to allow the mask to dry and pull toxins from your skin.  It is always best to apply masks to clean and toned skin and then follow with your favorite serum and/or moisturizer.

Here are 5 Easy Homemade Facial Masks to get you started…

For Dry Skin:

Avocado Face Mask

  • ½ ripe avocado
  • 1 Teaspoon plain organic yogurt
  • 1 Teaspoon of honey

(For more intense moisture add 1-2 Teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil)

Mash the avocado until soft and then mix in the yogurt and honey until pasty. Apply to face and leave for 10 – 15 minutes. Remove the mask by rinsing with lukewarm water.

For Oily Skin:

Oatmeal Honey Mask

  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1 egg yolk
  • oatmeal

Mix honey and egg yolk in a small bowl then slowly add enough oatmeal to create a thick paste.  Apply mask to face and leave it on for 15 minutes.  Rinse with lukewarm water.

For Any Skin Type:

Cucumber and Yogurt Mask

  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1 tablespoon yogurt

Puree cucumber and yogurt in a blender.  Apply to your face evenly and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water or a soft wash cloth.

For Acne Control:

(also great for tightening and toning)

Lemon Egg White Mask

  • 1 egg white
  • lemon juice from ½ a lemon

Beat the egg white in a shallow bowl.  Add juice from half a fresh lemon and mix to form a dense paste.  Apply to clean face and let dry for 15 to 20 minutes.  Rinse off with cool water or a soft wash cloth.

For Anti-Aging:

Chocolate Mask

  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 3 teaspoons of oatmeal powder

Mix all the ingredient and apply on the face by gently massaging so the oatmeal can start exfoliating the dead skin cell layer. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.

So what are you waiting for?  It’s time to spoil your face with an easy homemade facial mask.  Pamper yourself!
